EU e-invoicing rules are changing.
Make a structured invoice in 60 seconds.

Belgium, France and Germany require or are phasing in structured e-invoices for many business transactions — not just PDF. Fakturate generates standards-compliant UBL e-invoices free, with no signup. Everything runs in your browser: your financial data never touches a server.

E-invoicing is no longer optional

Belgium — in force

Since 1 January 2026, structured e-invoices are mandatory for most domestic B2B transactions between Belgian VAT-liable businesses. Exceptions apply.

France — in force

Since 1 September 2026, all businesses must be able to receive e-invoices; large and mid-size companies must also issue them. SMEs and micro-enterprises follow on 1 September 2027.

Germany — 2027 next

Since 1 January 2025, domestic businesses must be able to receive structured e-invoices. From 1 January 2027, businesses with more than €800,000 turnover must issue them; everyone else from 2028.

EU — ViDA & the Netherlands

Under VAT in the Digital Age, structured e-invoicing becomes the standard for intra-EU B2B from 1 July 2030 — and the Netherlands plans its domestic B2B mandate for the same date.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated e-invoices actually compliant?

Yes — 100% of what the generator produces is validated. Every invoice shape this tool can create (all VAT treatments, both profiles) passes the complete official rule sets: the EN 16931 Schematron, the Peppol BIS 3.0 rules, and Germany's KoSIT XRechnung rules including the strict BR-DE checks — 13/13 test invoices, zero errors. The generator only lets you download once your input satisfies the rules, so what you send is what the standards demand.

Is a PDF invoice still legal in the EU?

It depends on the country, transaction and transition period. A PDF remains permitted in some situations, but it does not qualify as the required structured e-invoice where a national mandate applies. Fakturate provides structured UBL XML plus a printable copy for your records.

What's the difference between XRechnung and Peppol BIS 3.0?

Both are profiles of the same European norm, EN 16931. XRechnung is Germany's national flavour (it additionally requires a buyer reference and seller contact details). Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 is the network-wide format used in Belgium, the Nordics and across Europe's Peppol network. Pick the profile your customer's country expects — Fakturate handles the differences for you.

How do I actually send the e-invoice?

The required delivery route depends on the recipient and country. German recipients may accept XML by email or require a specific portal; Belgian B2B invoices are typically exchanged through Peppol using an access point. Confirm the recipient's required channel before sending.

Does reverse charge / intra-EU VAT work?

Yes. Choose the VAT treatment (reverse charge services, intra-Community supply, export, or exemption) and Fakturate applies the correct EN 16931 tax category codes (AE, K, G, E), exemption reasons and the legally required wording — the part generic invoice tools get wrong.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Generating invoices is free and unlimited. We plan paid convenience features for regular users — saved client books, automatic invoice numbering, and batch generation. The compliant invoice itself will stay free.

Where is my data stored?

Only in your browser. The generator runs 100% client-side; if you tick "remember my details" they're kept in your browser's local storage on your device. We never see your invoices.
