About Fakturate
Standards and regulatory information last reviewed: 15 October 2026
Fakturate is a free, browser-based tool for creating structured European electronic invoices. It is maintained by Sander Voss. The goal is to make standards-compliant invoicing accessible to freelancers and small businesses without requiring an account or uploading financial data.
Private by design
The generator and validator run in your browser. Invoice contents are not sent to Fakturate. Optional saved business details remain in your browser's local storage.
Tested output
Generated samples are tested against the official EN 16931, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and KoSIT XRechnung Schematron rules. The current test set covers both profiles and all supported VAT treatments.
Transparent limits
Technical validation does not determine whether a format, VAT treatment or delivery route is legally correct for every transaction. Country mandates contain exceptions and transition rules.
What Fakturate supports
- UBL 2.1 invoices following EN 16931.
- Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and XRechnung 3.0 profile identifiers.
- Domestic VAT, reverse charge, intra-Community supply, export and exemptions.
- Integer-cent calculations and per-rate VAT breakdowns.
- A printable human-readable copy for records. The structured XML remains the electronic invoice used for automated processing.
How validation works
The generator restricts inputs and builds XML using profile-specific rules. Representative invoices are then checked against official Schematron validation rules: the EN 16931 Schematron from ConnectingEurope, the OpenPeppol BIS Billing 3.0 rules, and the KoSIT XRechnung validator configuration. The most recent run (12 October 2026, against EN 16931 release 1.3.17, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0.20 and the KoSIT XRechnung 3.0.2 bundle of 31 August 2026) covered 13 invoices — every VAT treatment in both profiles plus the published examples — with zero errors, and validated, downloadable example files are published in the guides.
Correction (5 October 2026): the validation run of that date found that Peppol invoices generated before this date addressed both parties by e-mail, which the Peppol rules do not accept, so access points would have rejected them. Peppol invoices now carry a Peppol participant identifier derived from the VAT number (for Belgium, scheme 0208 with the enterprise number). If you generated a Peppol invoice earlier, please regenerate it. XRechnung output was not affected.
The browser-based validator provides useful structural and arithmetic checks, but it is intentionally described as a pre-check rather than a complete official Schematron service.
Regulatory information
Pages about national mandates summarize official guidance, but they are not legal or tax advice. Requirements depend on the countries, parties, transaction, turnover, tax status and applicable exceptions. Dates and terminology are reviewed when standards or government guidance change.
